WHAT IS BULK MATERIAL DENSITY?
Bulk material density refers to the mass of a powdered or granular substance per unit volume in its loose or bulk state. In the context of combustible dust, bulk material density is an important property that describes how much mass of the dust can occupy a given volume.
Bulk material density is typically expressed in units such as kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³) or pounds per cubic foot (lb/ft³), depending on the system of measurement used. It represents the total mass of the dust particles per unit volume, including both the solid particles themselves and any void spaces between them.
Different materials can have significantly different bulk densities, even if they have similar chemical compositions. For example, a fine powder may have a lower bulk density compared to a coarser granular material, as the smaller particles can pack more densely.
