You have already made a wise investment by purchasing the RoboVent Fume Extractor and it’s likely you are pleased with your purchase. In order to protect your investment, extend the life of your gun and ensure the best performance throughout the life of your welding fume extraction gun, follow these six simple tips:

  1. Ceramic Spray: Use ceramic spray on the nozzle. It leaves a clean coat that makes it too slippery for particulates to stick to it. While there are several welding nozzle sprays on the market, in my opinion the ceramic spray is far superior. Nozzle sprays tend to gum up the inside of the gun and reduce the quality of the weld and effectiveness of the vacuum.
  2. Suck the Fumes: Always run the vacuum when using the gun. Not only does the vacuum remove the harmful particulates from the air, but it also cools the internal components of the gun. If you don’t cool the internal components, you will eventually destroy the gun.
  3. Proper Calibration: Make sure to calibrate the gun regularly. Even though proper calibration doesn’t necessarily affect the life of the gun, it affects the quality of the weld and fume capture, and those are probably two of the main reasons you chose this gun in the first place.
  4. Drive Roll Tension: Pay attention to the drive roll tension. Proper drive roll tension will increase the longevity of the liner while pressure that’s too high will make the wire poke through the lines.
  5. Prevent Hose Damage: Even though it is an optional piece of equipment, always use the leather cover over the hose. It will prevent hot sparks and dripping metal from damaging the hose and will certainly expand the life of the system.
  6. Precision Tool vs Hammer: Remember, this is a precision tool – not a hammer. It needs to be taken care of. Don’t throw it on the floor or be careless with the components. The better the care, the better the gun will perform for over a longer period of time.
